Different, invalid or expired passport or national ID card will not be accepted, and you will not be allowed to sit the test. Please note that candidates under 18 years of age have to supply written consent by a parent or guardian in order to apply for a test place.
  2. Download and read our Information for Candidates, which contains important information about the test format, the question types and the test results. Please note that IELTS is not recommended for test takers under the age of 16.
  3. Pay for your test. You can pay for your test through our online registration system. For in person registration, visit our authorised registration partners.

Your Listening, Reading, and Writing sections of the test will be completed on the same day with no break in between. In many locations there are test sessions in the morning and afternoon. All test sessions allow social distancing. Morning sessions are usually between 9:00 and 12:00. Afternoon sessions are usually between 13:00 and 16:00.

If you take IELTS on paper, your IELTS Speaking test will take place on a different day to the other sections of the test, in a 7-day window before or after the main test day. You will receive an email confirming your Speaking test date 48 hours in advance.

You can choose your Speaking test slot whether you take IELTS on a computer or on paper.

If we need to change your slot due to unforeseen reasons out of our control, we will notify you by email or phone.

The test fee in Thailand includes free exclusive preparation materials, practice tests and much more.

Our carefully assorted preparation resources provide you with comprehensive study materials, tips and strategies to help you succeed. Additionally, you will have access to free practice tests to help you assess your progress and familiarise yourself with the test format.

You will receive emails confirming:

  • the start time of your test and the venue address
  • your IELTS Speaking Test date
  • your access to the free online preparation resource IELTS Ready Premium, which includes 40+ IELTS practice tests across the four skills: Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening.

From 1 March 2024, test takers who are non-residents in Thailand will no longer be able to register an IELTS on Paper test. Non-resident IELTS test takers in Thailand may register for the IELTS on Computer test instead.

This is an IELTS partner policy and applies to all IELTS on Paper tests in Thailand delivered by the British Council and IDP Education.

We will require all non-Thai national test takers who have booked an IELTS on Paper test to provide acceptable proof of residence in Thailand, valid for at least 3 months, by email at least three days before their scheduled test date.

Acceptable proof of residence includes:

1.     A valid Student Visa (stating purpose, length of visa and expiry date) stamped in the passport.
2.     A valid Work Permit (2 documents) including Visa (stating status and expiry) stamped in the passport and Work Permit card (showing expiry date).

Other important notes:

  • Any non-residents already registered before 1 March will be allowed to sit their registered IELTS on Paper test without any additional proof of residence. This change only affects non-residents registering after 1 March.
  • Proof of residence (permits or visas) cannot be for periods of less than three consecutive months.
  • If a test taker is unable to provide acceptable proof of residence within the stipulated deadline, then their IELTS on Paper booking will be cancelled.
  • Test takers unable to provide acceptable proof of residence will be allowed to take an IELTS on Computer test without any proof of residence.
  • Once the test centre notifies relevant registered test takers of the requirement for proof of residence, the test takers will have 72 hours to respond as required. Failure to respond with the right documentation will result in test cancellation and a full refund.
  • Approved non-Thai resident test takers for IELTS on Paper will also have to present their residency documents on test day. They have to present the same documents they used for registration, or they will be refused entry to the test.

If you are an institution or language school and would like your students to take the test at your premises (bulk registration), please complete this form  .
