We know that the learning and assessment needs of students change as they grow. Our innovative tests are designed to cater to academic milestones, enabling students to perform at their best, whatever age they are.
The British Council engages with over 50 million teachers and learners of English worldwide each year – teaching and assessing English are at the heart of what we do.
We have helped learners all around the world develop English skills, build connections and access opportunities, for over 90 years.
Our English Assessments for Schools provide testing that lets students shine at every stage of their education.
The Ministry of Education strongly endorses the use of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; Learning, teaching, assessment (CEFR for short) for standards in English language education.
The use of internationally recognised standards in student graduation and teacher education can support the people of Thailand in their local, regional and global aspirations, and Thailand in its national economic development.
The CEFR has 6 distinct levels: A1 and A2 (Basic user); B1 and B2 (Independent user); and C1 and C2 (Proficient user).
IELTS has been mapped to the CEFR and Aptis tests have been derived from the CEFR. Both are rigorously tested and academically proven to be excellent indicators of level making them some of the most widely used and trusted tests in the world.
The Ministry of Education, the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), and the Teacher Council of Thailand all recognise Aptis and IELTS for students and teachers as valid CEFR assessments.
With English Assessment for Schools, you can help your students do their best:

As Primary education comes to an end, students have reached a key milestone in their learning journeys. It’s the ideal moment to assess their level of English and inform future learning goals when moving into secondary education. Students aged 9 to 12 do better when they're interested and motivated, which is why we designed our tests with that in mind. Our Primary English tests use story-based animation to engage students so that they can do their best.
Our test is designed to track progress as students move through secondary school. At the same time, we know how important it is to help students feel confident and supported. Our Secondary English Test draws from activities and scenarios that teenagers encounter every day. This lets students aged 13 to 16 feel confident, showcase their language skills and reach their full potential.
We know how important it is for students to demonstrate their English skills. Whether a student wants to apply for a job, higher education or university, they can take a globally recognised English test through the British Council. Our Upper Secondary tests, Aptis General and IELTS, serve as a springboard to unlock exciting opportunities in the future.
Our tests are delivered on-demand, at a time and location of your choice. Optimising the time and resources you spend on English testing has never been easier.
We support test takers and help them access life-changing opportunities, wherever they are on their learning journey.
