Thailand Visas
Entry to Thailand is normally refused to visitors holding passports with less than six months’ validity. It has also been refused if there are only two or three pages remaining in the passport. It is important to check with the Royal Thai Embassy in your country of residence.
Visitors from the UK and a number of other countries do not require a visa and are permitted to stay in Thailand for up to 30 days by obtaining a (free) 30-day tourist stamp on arrival at the airport. However, visitors from some countries are required to obtain a visa from the nearest Royal Thai Embassy in advance. For some countries, vaccination certificates are also required before entry (for example, for yellow fever). Please contact your nearest Royal Thai Embassy to check if you require a visa in advance or a vaccination certificate.
Visitors entering Thailand on a 30-day tourist visa must not take up employment during their stay. Anyone wishing to stay more than 30 days must apply for a visa before arrival. Visitors who overstay the specified number of days granted in their visa will be fined automatically for each day spent in Thailand beyond the date limit. If you cannot pay the fine imposed you could be delayed and miss your flight, and/or be arrested.
Make sure that your passport is stamped on arrival, especially if you enter overland. It is a good idea to enter your next of kin details into the back of your passport.
