ReBoot EEF

Background

English is regarded as being a core element in Thailand’s education system almost thirty years on since it was made a compulsory subject in primary schools and is now widely viewed as the main foreign language in Thailand’s schools.

'ReBoot’ is the name of a new online moderated course, based on the flagship large-scale face-to-face Regional English Training Centres (RETC) “Bootcamp” Project held in Thailand between 2016-2018.  This intensive teacher development training reached 15,268 teachers across 20 cohorts in 19 centres nationwide.  A three-week long, in-person course, it was delivered between 2016-18 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. Bootcamp underwent complete remodelling, from a fully face-to-face model to a fully online model as a transformation of RETC/Bootcamp as a digital, online offer.

In the first cohort of the English ReBoot, which developed English language teaching in the southern border provinces, the project was implemented in four deep south provinces: Songkhla, Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat.

In the next coming cohort, the project expands from the initial focus on the four deep south provinces to all 14 provinces across Southern Thailand, ensuring that teachers across the region have equitable access to training and learning resources to enhance the quality of English language teaching.
