Pongsadhorn Pokpermdee is a senior officer at the Ministry of Public Health, initiating policies and implementing national strategies to provide better health for all. His key contributions include the initiative health insurance scheme for 600,000 people with citizenship problems, the access of expensive treatments and medicines such as cancer heart and psychiatric diseases, the 20-year national strategic plan for public health 2018–2037, primary care reform involving the establishment of family physicians for all Thais, quality accreditation for sub-district health centres and 200% tax allowances for individual and corporate social responsibility (donations) for public hospitals. Pongsadhorn observes that the University of York provided him with an outstanding teaching and learning experience and detailed knowledge of health economic issues. The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is also a leader in public health and policy and uniquely placed to shape health policy and research funding to create a tangible impact. He is focusing on the developing policy on ageing society, transforming healthcare in Thailand through the integration of digital technology and mentoring young leaders at the Ministry of Public Health.
