Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate Foundation comprises four schools, each with its unique qualities, but all sharing a common purpose of providing students with a first-class education and the opportunity to work towards higher education and a successful career. There are strong academic standards across the Foundation and students are encouraged to have high expectations for their achievement and career prospects. There is a very wide curriculum available. The Foundation is set in a traditional walled estate around the beautiful Thorpe Underwood Hall, which is surrounded by modern purpose-built facilities. We are close to the attractive and historic city of York in the North of England, just 2 hours by train from the centre of London providing a safe and secure environment in which students can both live and study.
The schools that make up the Foundation are:
Chapter House Preparatory School
For students from 3 to 10 years of age,
King's Magna Middle School
For students from 10 – 14 years of age
Queen Ethelburga's College
For students from 14 – 19, which follows a traditional curriculum of GCSEs and A Levels for students who are looking for pace and academic rigour, and who have high aspirations for university, either in the UK or abroad.
The Faculty of Queen Ethelburga's
For students from 14 – 19, offering a wider curriculum, including academic, creative and vocational options, for students who are looking for a more individual approach to course selection and a supportive environment in which to learn.
Many students, from both the College and Faculty gain entry to top Universities every year including Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial College London, Durham, Bristol, Manchester, King’s College London and many more.
The superb boarding accommodation is probably the finest in Europe and 6th Form students have en-suite apartment style accommodation.
There are excellent sports facilities with a very large Sports Hall, 25 metre indoor heated swimming pool, with Spa pool and sauna, state of the art 108 station Fitness Centre, grass and astro turf sport pitches and newly surfaced tennis courts.
We have an exceptional variety of extracurricular activities on the campus and students join in these activities after school and at weekends.
In 2019 the schools across the collegiate were awarded the highest accolade of “excellent” by the independent school’s inspectorate after a full inspection including both academic and boarding provision.
